Then the Ice Devils got one to even the score as Will Mulcahy walked in all alone and beat Irish junior Thomas Dehr top shelf after a great cross ice pass from Cory Kocent. Both teams went into the locker room tied at 1-1 after 30 minutes. (Just a side note that in high school hockey, they only play three 15 minute periods.) The third period saw Batavia control most of the period, including getting the game winner off the stick of senior Tim Finnell with Kocent and Mulcahy getting the assists at the 12:20 mark of the final frame.
Notre Dame would then try to muster up a late game comeback to tie the game and send it to overtime but Ice Devil netminder Adam Kurek was up to the task as he stopped 26 shots to pick up the victory. Thomas Dehr made 14 saves in the loss for the Fighting Irish who drop to 11-3-0-1 as the Ice Devils are now 6-7-1-0 and now take over third place in the division standings behind Notre Dame and Victor.
The Irish's next contest is on Thursday January 21st at 6 pm as they take on the Victor Blue Devils at the Falletti Ice Arena while the Ice Devils return to action on Saturday afternoon at Brighton/East Rochester/Honeoye Falls-Lima at 2 pm.
